I am conducing a small piece of independent research with Ruth Buckingham,
Reader Development Librarian for the Isle of Wight looking at reader
development for 11 to 16 year olds in school libraries and public libraries
and, in particular, the ways in which libraries from the two sectors can
work together.
We would be interested to hear about any reader development/reading
promotion activities (large or small scale) that school or public
librarians have been involved in over the last two years.
For each activity, please give the following details:
· A brief description
· The date(s) when it took place
· The number of children involved
· The ages of the children involved
· Any other partners involved eg public library, bookshop
· Any difficulties experienced and how these were overcome
· The benefits of the activity for pupils and for the library
Regardless of whether you have organised any activities we would like to
hear your opinions on:
· The role the school library should play in reader development
activities
· How this relates to the role of the public library
· What would help you to improve or develop reader development
activities in your library?
Thank you for any help you are able to give with this research. Please
send any responses to Sarah McNicol by Friday 18th October.
