NESLI News
Issue 7 April 2002

Offers 2002

Since the December 2001 issue the Managing Agent has
circulated details of the following offers to the NESLI Reps;

Association of Computing Machinery
CRC Press
Kluwer
Oxford University Press

An offer to NESLI from Taylor and Francis is imminent and full
details will emailed to NESLI members in the next couple of days.

These are in addition to the offers previously approved;

American Chemical Society
Blackwell Publishing
Elsevier Science
Internet Archaeology
Johns Hopkins University Press
Lawrence Erlbaum Associates
Mary Ann Liebert
MCB Emerald
Springer Verlag
Wiley Interscience

Full details of these offers can be found on the Rep's area of the
NESLI website, http://www.nesli.ac.uk/nesli-reps/ and summaries
on http://www.nesli.ac.uk/offers.html

The Managing Agent is in continuing talks with the following
publishers and the status of these are detailed below;

CABI Publishing - The offer has been forwarded to the Journals
Working Group for their consideration. The main issue is the 'no
cancellations' clause, but the publisher is willing to continue using
the NESLI model licence and accepts clause 2.2.2.

Harcourt Health Sciences - The offer is with the Journals Working
Group although the Managing Agent has been asked to clarify the
NESLI Model Licence clause 2.2.2 with Harcourt. The Managing
Agent's contact has recently changed due to staff changes at
Elsevier Science.

MIT Press - The Managing Agent is continuing their negotiations
with MIT Press and hope to have further news shortly.

Sage Publications - The Journals Working Group have rejected the
offer made to NESLI by Sage Publications. The Managing Agent
is awaiting comments from Sage, but it is unlikely that a revised
offer for 2002 will be made.

Academic Press/Elsevier

The Managing Agent has been in communication with Elsevier for
several months now concerning the situation with the
IDEAL/Academic Press titles (now ownership is with Elsevier) and
a proposal to NESLI for 2002 for the Academic Press titles.

Elsevier have recently started to send out information to IDEAL
consortia members concerning their planned transition from the
IDEAL platform to the Science Direct platform. This is a reminder
that UK HEI subscribers to IDEAL currently are part of an 'Open'
consortium, formed by Academic Press themselves (and now
Elsevier). You may therefore hear directly from Elsevier via an Area
Manager about their transition plans.

Elsevier have promised to provide a proposal to NESLI and the
Managing Agent is awaiting this with anticipation.

As soon as we have further news we shall be in touch.

Research Councils

The Managing Agent is currently negotiating a special NESLI offer
with Blackwell Publishing and Wiley Interscience on behalf of the
Research Councils. Further details will follow in due course.

Marcel Dekker

Although not on the list of publishers the Managing Agent was
tasked to negotiate with by JISC, we have met with Marcel Dekker
who are keen to put an offer to NESLI. They have agreed to use
the NESLI Model Licence as the basis of the licence agreement
and the Journals Working Group would like to pursue an offer. We
are currently awaiting final offer details from Marcel Dekker, which
will be passed to the Journals Working Group for their approval.
Further details will follow in due course.

American Chemical Society

The Managing Agent is in discussions with the American Chemical
Society about a NESLI offer for their digital archive, covering all
journals from Volume 1 Number 1, and how this fits in with the
archive available to current subscribers. Further details will follow
shortly.

Oxford University Press

The Managing Agent will be meeting with OUP during UKSG to
discuss a possible NESLI offer for the title JNCI Cancer Spectrum.
Further details will follow in due course.

JISC Hand Over

As you are probably aware, the Managing Agent's involvement with
NESLI comes to an end in September 2002. After this time the
JISC will facilitate negotiations with the NESLI publishers, run the
Helpdesk and handle the NESLI Model Licence administration.
Therefore the Managing Agent will not be negotiating with
publishers for the 2003 offers on behalf of libraries.

The Managing Agent will be working closely with the JISC
throughout the transition period to ensure a smooth hand over.

SwetsnetNavigator Update

This summer SwetsnetNavigator will be relaunched as part of
SwetsWise. This is more than a new release of SwetsnetNavigator
as a gateway. SwetsWise will enable enhancements to the overall
level of e-access service that Swets Blackwell provides to
institutions and their end users. Further details about the
functionality and services that will be available in the enhanced
gateway will be sent directly to Libraries in due course. Swets
Blackwell will also be in touch during the coming weeks about the
extra functionality in SwetsWise, over and above the features you
already use in SwetsnetNavigator.

All current functionality will be in the new service and the transition
process will be seamless, with a period of 'parallel running' to
ensure that users have ample chance to learn the improved
interface.
Documentation and full support will also be available.

We are keen to solicit feedback regarding NESLI. If you have any
comments regarding the contents of this NESLI News or any other
NESLI issues please e-mail our NESLI Helpdesk at
[log in to unmask] We look forward to hearing from you.
