I agree with John's comments below, although again I am not a
legal expert.
In my opinion the link is no different to any other kind of reference,
just a pointer to the original. Hence there should be no problem
referencing the document(s) concerned on your supplier's server.
Of course if anyone is suggesting putting a copy of the article on
your local server as part of the VLE and linking to that, then we are
in a whole new ball-park and you certainly would require permission.
