Well said Claire !!
I am, like many people, feeling the need to get my PDR written having
finished my "year" last Feb 2001. But this is so I can feel the pride of
announcing myself to be a chartered librarian. I have worked hard to get to
this position where I can even attempt to charter and if nothing else it has
at least made me look at my own library service and the way I have
contributed and can still contribute in the future to its development.
I do not know a single profession where its free to develop oneself, even if
its not financial it costs in time and effort. If we spend all our time
discussing why we are doing this then we'll never get anything done, I am
reminded of the Life of Brian where the committee sits in upper room voting
whether to take immediate action to save Brian from being crucified ( for
those as sad as I the weblink is :
http://www.mwscomp.com/movies/brian/brian-21.htm). Ok it may seem a
frivolous response here but I hope it illustrates my point.
So I wish everyone out there a Good New Year and hope that like myself the
fact that there are others out there in the same position as me and with
the same sorts of pressures helps us all. I am determined to finish and
submit this year - I thank those brave enough to admit that its not as easy
at it appears and to keep sending the good advice and discussion I have seen
on this list in the past. But folks keep it positive - I for one need this
!!
