The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology have
just announced a scheme to support post-doctoral research fellows at a
host research institution in Ireland, known as the "Government of
Ireland Post-doctoral Fellowship Scheme". The essential details are as
follows:

career through association with established research teams who have
achieved international recognition for their work;
- applicants will normally have just completed their PhD and have or are
about to defend, their thesis;
- candidates from any country may apply, but must be hosted by a
research institution in Ireland;
- successful applicants are expected to take up their award prior to the
end of 2002;
- fellowships are valued at €33,000 per annum with an additional
allowance towards laboratory and travel costs, and last for 2 years;
Details on the funding scheme are at www.ircset.ie and the CLOSING DATE
IS NOVEMBER 6th 2002.
This is a very short deadline (details of the scheme were released only
over the last few days) and requires form-filling, signatures,
counter-signatures, etc.
The Centre for Digital Video Processing (CDVP) at Dublin City University
is keen to support suitable candidates who wish to apply for funding
under this scheme. The essential details of the CDVP are:
- a research centre of 25 faculty, postdoctoral researchers and graduate
students;
- a collaboration between schools of computer applications and
electronic engineering;
- our mission is to research and develop techniques and tools to
automatically analyse and index digital video information and allow
content-based operations such as browsing, searching, alerting,
filtering and summarisation;
- we are active participants in the TREC video track;
Details on the CDVP are at www.cdvp.dcu.ie
If you are a recent PhD graduate or have submitted your PhD, and have
some expertise in any of the broad areas of information retrieval (not

are interested in pursuing this interest through a funded post doctoral
position in Dublin, then please contact the undersigned, a.s.a.p.
