CONNECTIONS WORKSHOP

'SHADOW PLAY'

Sunday 6 October 1000 - 1700
at Sutton Courtenay Abbey, near Oxford

with Roddy Maude-Roxby

If only....
Our ability to communicate appropriately where our emotions are Œhooked¹ were more satisfactory both to others and ourselves. At home or at work, with adults or with children, once annoyed or frustrated we may resort to blaming someone, if not ourselves.
If only.....
When someone else is upset, we didn¹t find ourselves placating them and feeling rather helpless.
If only....
When we try to be fair we didn¹t feel it was all taken the wrong way².
If only...
We knew what do we do when we feel nobody cares, when we¹re at complete loggerheads with someone, or feel hurt or upset about something.
If only...
We could we apply a Œhere and now¹ check on how we were experiencing any of these situations.

Virginia Satir noted modes of communication, Œstyles¹ that can become habitual and cause confusion. She offers the more truthful style of levelling, of being honest, also recognising that Œto pace¹ one of these modes of communication can include the choice of one of Œthe set¹ before coming to the point where levelling is acceptable. To be honest too soon can infuriate.

The approach in this workshop will be seriously light and humorous, giving scope for play and improvisation with Satir¹s categories. There will also be opportunities to be Œon stage¹ with an RMR* version of Fritz Perls and to learn the use of the meta-mirror.

Roddy was a founder member of Theatre Machine, Britain¹s first theatre of improvisation and has worked with Peter Brook, Bill Gaskill, Peter Cook, Alan Bennett and Spike Milligan, Mike Nichols, Richard Attenborough and David Cregan. He has also taken his methods in psychiatric hospitals, addiction centres and prisons working with masks and improvised theatre. As a master practitioner and trainer in NLP her has taken NLP to the theatre and the theatre to NLP.
