mapping research on disability and higher education
A small piece of self-funded research is currently being undertaken on
disability and higher education to include
1. attitudes towards disabled university students
2. Attitudes toward disabled people by university students
3. experiences of disabled university students
4. inclusion of disability issues in the professional training programs
5. public policies regarding access to higher education by disabled students
6. Universities' experiences regarding access to higher education by
disabled students
7. Academic assessment of disabled students
8. Access to learning technologies by disabled students
9. Access to international education by disabled students
This list is not exhaustive any other research papers or dissertations on
the disabled students and disabled staff would be included.
The ooegraphical context is global including the US, the UK, AU, EU, CA
among others.
The research was restricted to peer-reviewed journal papers and doctoral
dissertations.
The first phase of the research focuses on the period 1998 to 2003.
The research involves the brief content analysis as well as bibliometric
analysis (including citation analysis).
Higher education term includes any post-16 education euqivalent of the term
postsecondary in the US or tertiary education in IE and AU as well as
professional education.
The resulting research papers would be submitted for publication in the
peer-reviewed international journals and resources would be put up in the
publicly available websites.
The owners of the research papers and dissertations would be asked to
provide brief information based on a template being developed and copies
(electronic or paper) of the research papers and extended abstracts of the
doctoral dissertations would be asked for the content analysis.
This would complement the desk research carried out during the last four
years as a part of self-funded research project. But collaboration with the
researchers in this project especially would be helpful to locate and
disseminate research to be published in 2002 and 2003 which are not
abstracted or indexed by the research databases as well as those not indexed
and abstracted at all.
The rationale for the existence of this small piece of research is the
dissemination of research on disabled students in higher education across
grographical boundaries, disciplines, subjects, disabilities, research and
service users, organisations, and time among others to contribute to the
development of research, practice and public policies on the access to
higher education, professions and graduate employment by disabled students
across the world.
A website for this piece of research is being currently created at
http://www.student.city.ac.uk/~cx639/map.htm to be active soon where the
templates for the data collection would be provided.
The contact details are as below.
