A note from our Festival of Learning coordinator - apologies for any cross
posting
July 2002
Dear Colleague
LTSN HEALTH SCIENCES AND PRACTICE
FESTIVAL OF LEARNING: 19-20 SEPTEMBER, BRISTOL
I am writing to draw your attention to the above event, one of a series of
‘Festivals of Learning’ being held across the UK during 2002/3.
The Festivals are an innovative concept developed by LTSN Health Sciences
and Practice, which blend elements of established event formats - high
profile keynote presentations, in-depth participatory workshops, special
interest groups – to provide a unique celebration of diverse approaches to
education and training.
This festival promises to be a stimulating, challenging and enjoyable event,
offering a variety of academic and professional development opportunities,
coupled with facilities for personal re-vitalisation and renewal. We are
particularly pleased to have as our opening keynote speaker Professor Bob
Fryer, CEO of the NHS University. His presentation theme ‘Innovation in
Learning and Teaching: the contribution of NHSU’ will have resonance for all
who work in the field of health sciences and practice.
Key features of the event are ‘Core Theme’ workshops. These will offer an
opportunity for in-depth consideration of key issues effecting the health
sciences and practice constituency, including; interprofessional education,
flexible modes of learning, placement-based education and educational
research. Other workshops will address issues of academic and professional
relevance, such as: problem-based learning, reflective practice, widening
participation and student diversity.
Add to the above an open debate, special interest groups, poster sessions
and project presentations, coupled with networking opportunities, and it’s
clear that the Bristol ‘Festival of Learning’ is an important date in the
health sciences education and training calendar for 2002.
