JOB OPPORTUNITIES:
Information Management Co-ordinators (2 posts)
We currently have two vacancies in the role of Information Management Co-
ordinator, within the Waterway Conservation and Regeneration department at
British Waterways. The posts will be based in Gloucester and Rugby. This
internal department provides expertise in waterway environment and heritage
management to British Waterways in its task of managing the 2000-mile
network of canals and river navigations.
The role:
- Provide expertise in the area of GIS and mapping for the department and
BW as a whole
- Assist in the maintenance and development of computerised record systems,
when required inputting, abstracting and presenting information in an
appropriate format.
- Manage well-defined projects to meet set objectives.
- Assist in the development of corporate policies and initiatives in GIS
- Assist in controlling and maintaining all computer systems in the
department
- Assist in the carrying out of environmental and heritage surveys,
assessments, evaluations, research and analysis of the waterway
environment, and in the implementation of solutions to specific problems
- Provide technical expertise in the area of IT.
The Candidate
- M.Sc. in GIS preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Good working knowledge of GIS is essential (experience of ESRI’s products
would be an advantage).
- High level of IT knowledge, should include all Microsoft Office
applications, including Microsoft Access, familiarity with DTP would be an
advantage.
- Some awareness of programming languages would be an advantage, Visual
Basic would be particularly useful.
- Knowledge of Intranet and Internet technologies.
- Environmental background - must demonstrate an understanding of
environmental issues and policies involved in managing inland waterways.
- Strong communication, presentation and team-working skills, as well as
ability to work unsupervised.
