Dear Pulak,
Although garnet is generally absent from most areas of the Hercynian
Pyrenees, in the Canigou massif the assemblage grt-andal-st-bt-ms is
relatively common, with textural evidence suggesting relatively early growth
of grt but also indicating involvement of grt in reactions during and/or
after the formation of andalusite and staurolite. The reference for this is:
Gibson, R.L. 1992. Sequential, syndeformational porphyroblast growth during
Hercynian low-pressure/high-temperature metamorphism in the Canigou massif,
Pyrenees. J. met. Geol., 10, 637-650.
Best wishes,
Roger Gibson.
