Dear Pulak:
Further examples of andalusite-garnet-biotite-staurolite assemblages are
found in the Adelaide Foldbelt of South Australia, particularly in the
Kanmantoo Group which has been divided into biotite, staurolite-andalusite,
fibrolite, prismatic sillimanite and migmatite zones, with grade increasing
eastwards and intimately related to a series of granite plutons emplaced
during the Cambrian to Early Ordovician Delamerian Orogeny.
I have not worked on these rocks, but samples I use for teaching comprise
mainly andalusite-staurolite-biotite-quartz. Small garnet prophyrpoblasts
appear to have grown realtively late but are widspread. Muscovite is
usually present, but at very low abundance.
A relatively recent reference with a petrological emphasis is:
Dymoke & Sandiford, 1992. Phase relationships in Buchan facies series
pelitic assemblages: calculations with application to andalusite-staurolite
parageneses in the Mount Lofty Ranges, South Australia. Contrib. Miner.
Petrol. 110, 121-132.
regards
Ian
