The deadline for abstract submission for the 16th Australian Geological
Convention in Adelaide, Australia 1-5 July is approaching.
This is a reminder for people interested in submitting to the symposium
2.3: Thermal and Structural Evolution of Orogenic Belts that abstracts
deadlines and early bird registrations need to in by 28th Feb.
Symposium 2.3 is designed to be wide ranging (see below)
The development of orogenic systems throughout geological time is a
dramatic manifestation of the sensitivity of continental lithosphere to
internal and external stresses as well as to thermal perturbations.
Despite continuous progress, many aspects of orogenesis are still poorly
understood, in particular the large diversity in the tectonic evolution
of orogens contrasts with the relative simplicity of most collisional
models. This diversity may reflects on the highly non-linear nature of
the interplay between thermal and mechanical processes that operate on a
range of scales.
The aim of this symposium is to promote interaction between a wide range
of contributors, from Australia and overseas, with a broad spectrum of
interests in orogenic analysis. This symposium will focus on
understanding the diversity of orogenic systems. We invite contributions
from petrologists, structural geologists and geochronologists
documenting the history of orogenic systems as well as physical
modelers, and geophysicists seeking to explore orogenic behavior.
