Together with Paddy O'Brien and Leonid Perchuk, I am convening a session
"Geothermobarometry and Geospeedometry" (no. 29) at the IMA meeting in
Edinburgh, September 1-6, 2002. Recent years have seen exciting
developments in a number of areas, which include:
capability of spatially resolved analyses of major and trace elements as
well as isotopes,
advances in experimental methods, thermodynamic models and databases,
knowledge of diffusion coefficients
and last but not least,
detailed observations in the field and on thin section scales.
All of these have contributed to a change in the way we view "peak"
temperatures and pressures and the time scale over which these were
attained or sustained in rocks, melts and meteorites.
My co-convenors and I encourage contributions from all of the above
areas and encourage all of you to submit papers to the above session. We
look forward to seeing you in Edinburgh.
Abstract due date: 31 March 2002, also due date for registration.
HOWEVER, NOTE THAT THE LAST DATE FOR APPLYING FOR THE LIMITED TRAVEL
SUPPORT IS THE END OF JANUARY:
