Natural occurrences of kornerupine in metapelites indicate an invariant
point in the model system NKFMASH-B that limits the stability of
kornerupine against lower-T assemblages with tourmaline and lower-P
assemblages with grandidierite. Data from Proterozoic metapelites in
southeastern Ontario (Lonker SW 1988 CMP98 502-516, Carmichael DM 1994
GSAAbsProg26, 448-449) show that this invariant point is in the
garnet-cordierite-Kfeldspar zone, between a pair of isograds based on the
vapor-absent anatectic reactions Sil+Bt+Pl+Qtz=Grt+Crd+Kfs+L and
Grt+Bt+Pl+Qtz=Crd+Opx+Kfs+L, at about 6-7 kbar and 750-800 degrees C.
