Dear All,
We are currently involved with some numerical modelling of garnet zoning
profiles during coupled growth and diffusion are looking for a sample
to test our predictions on. If anyone has/can think of where to collect
an appropriate sample, we'd be grateful to know. Below are the details
what we are after. All of the requirements would be ideal, but some of
them would be great already:
1.) A schist or gneiss containing garnet and biotite
2.) If possible in KFMASH (ie little Ca, Mn etc..)
3.) A large range of garnet grain sizes BELOW 1 mm
4.) As high as possible peak temperature (at least 600C)
5.) One metamorphic cycle only
6.) Garnets with both growth zonation and diffusion zoning.

PS.: If you are interested what we are doing: We are picking up where
we left off with some of our work published in Ehlers et al. 1994 in
EPSL, Stüwe & Ehlers 1997 in MINERALOGY And PETROLOGY and Ehlers et al.,
1995 in AMERICAN MINERALOGIST and are now also modelling growth. In
particular we are investigating statistical sectioning effects.
