Hi.
Typical text output from FAST with partial volume estimation turned on:
Class: CSF tissue 1 tissue 2 brain percentage
Volumes: 279856.9 713568.4 663759.8 0.831125
so if you want the total grey volume (eg tissue 1) then the value 713568.4
is exactly this, taking into account partial volume effect and everything.
Alternatively, if you run
avwstats structural_brain_pve_1 -m -v
you get
0.068051 8388608 10485760.000000
and if you multiply the first and last columns (mean over all voxels *
total image volume) then you get virtually the same answer.

If you don't already have an Interfile header (eg test.a00) then you don't
have Interfile format, so you shouldn't be using if2avw! You need to first
identify what format images you have.....a good place to look for various
image conversion programs is
