I should have said the thesauruses of placenames, surnames and forenames are
being done, or have been done, by others. The British Surnames Thesaurus was
initiated by Ian Galbraith of origins.net, and the thesaurus of placenames
is being carried out by as I recall an academic consortium which announced
its project on the fish e-list. Alan Bardsley compiled a booklet on
forenames which was if I recall aright published by the Federation of Family
History Societies. There were plans for this booklet to be revised by Tony
Hodgkinson of the FFHS, but I don't know what happened to that. There was
also a project initiated by SIGG to compile a list of church and parish
dedications, but that project has been dropped.

Thanks Leonard, I've done this and printed out a couple or three web pages.
We don't particularly wish to confine ourselves to palaeography.
