Evolution 2002 will feature three full days of high-profile seminars,
premier video screenings, specially curated film packages, exhibitions,
and rare live performances, which aim to explore the history of
experimental and time-based art and it's relationship to contemporary
practice.
Hear pioneering engineer Billy Klüver and seminal artist Robert Whitman,
speak in conversation with Malcolm Le Grice (London Film Co-op) about
their role in '9 Evenings:Theatre and Engineering' - a defining moment in
late 20th century art.
See film packages introduced by leading, international film curators Dietmar
Schwärzler (SixPack Film, Austria), and John Thomson (Electronic Arts
Intermix, New York), and a UK premier of Billy Klüver's film 'Art and
Technology'. Also work from Lillian Schwartz, Douglas Gordon, Robert
Rauschenberg, Öyvind Fahlstrom, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Malcolm
Le Grice Stan, VanDerBeek, Nam June Paik, John Godfrey, Rachel Reupke,
and Gustav Deutsch.
Experience the interactive gaming installation 'QQQ', 'Expanded Cinema',
a live performance with Richard Chartier, Kitchen Motors, and Kim Cascone,
and a 21st century 'happening' performed by seminal US artist Robert
Whitman.

Day 1: Thursday 10th October
Highlights will include a seminar, on the theme of audio-visuality followed
by a live performance featuring Kim Cascone (US), Kitchen Motors (Iceland),
Richard Chartier (US), Vendor Refill (UK) and others.

Day 2: Friday 11th October
The day will centre around keynote speaker Billy Klüver (E.A.T),
discussions on the theme of art and technology, and end with artist Robert
Whitman re-presenting a 1960's 'happening' for the 21st century.

Day 3: Saturday 12th October
Seminars and screenings followed by an evening of ŒExpanded Cinema:
Films from the London Film Makers Co-operative¹ introduced by John
Thomson will conclude Evolution 2002.

Exhibitions: 3rd - 13th October
A disused 1960¹s cinema, the crypt of Leeds Town Hall, and Leeds City
Library will provide unconventional settings for ŒQQQ¹ by Nullpointer,
ŒFilm ist (1-12)¹ by Gustav Deutsch, and ŒThe Story of Experiments
in Art and Technology¹ amongst others.
