Note that I experienced quite a delay in accessing the powerpoint
presentation - maybe 2 minutes. However there was no problem in
downloading "Early Westinghouse Research Laboratories and Great Men in
Mechanics" --Cliff

Subject: ASME 2002 Nadai Lecture by Sia Nemat-Nasser

Dear Cliff:

At the 2002 ASME IMECE in New Orleans several people expressed
interest in the written version of the 2002 Nadai Lecture which I
delivered. This is not possible for me to do at this time. Instead, I
have placed my powerpoint presentation at the following website:

http://www-ceam.ucsd.edu

Please click on "ASME 2002 Nadai Medal Lecture: Compression
Induced Ductile Failure of Brittle Materials and Brittle Fracturing
of Ductile Materials: Experiments and Modeling " to download the
entire lecture and view it at your convenience.

In addition, from the same website, you may wish to download a
pdf document (by clicking on "Early Westinghouse Research
Laboratories and Great Men in Mechanics" of a lovely description of
the early research efforts at Westinghouse Research Laboratories in
Ardmore Blvd. that brought to the United States many great men,
particularly in mechanics who created the modern mechanical sciences,
as we know it. It covers 35 years of activities from pre- to
post-war II developments and comments on contributions of such
notables as Timosenko, Nadai, Den Hartog, and many others. I am sure
you will find this report amusing and enlightening.

Please kindly forward this email to your students, co-workers
and others who you think may be interested.

Regards,

Sia Nemat-Nasser
