TimeWeb

MIMAS and the Institute for Learning and Research Technology (ILRT) are
pleased to announce the release of TimeWeb. TimeWeb (Time Series Data
on the Web) is a unique integrated package of data and teaching and
learning materials to support the teaching of data skills in schools,
colleges and universities. There are two main parts to TimeWeb:

1. Learning and teaching materials - these have been developed by
Biz/ed (http://www.bized.ac.uk/) at the ILRT
2. TimeWeb Explorer - this has been developed by MIMAS at
Manchester Computing

The learning and teaching materials are very extensive and cover most
essential data handling skills. There are explanations, illustrations,
worksheets and a reference section with a full glossary and information
on the way data is used in business and elsewhere. The learning and
teaching materials also have an extensive sample data set from National
Statistics.

TimeWeb Explorer is an advanced web application that allows users to
explore the OECD Main Economic indicators data. The OECD Main Economic
Indicators contains thousands of comparative statistics for the major
economies of the world, and covers national accounts, business and
consumer surveys, leading indicators, retail trade, production, prices,
employment, wages, finance, trade and the balance of payments. Most of
the series start in 1960. Through the new TimeWeb Explorer, data from
this important database can be subsetted, plotted and downloaded via an
intuitive windows interface.

TimeWeb Explorer is freely accessible to students and researchers at UK
higher and further educational establishments and is available through
the TimeWeb site. You may need an Athens username and password if your
PC is not part of a recognized educational establishment network.

The TimeWeb project has been developed for the Joint Information
Systems Committee as part of its programme of enhancing services for
learning and teaching, and through a collaboration between MIMAS at
Manchester Computing and the ILRT at the University of Bristol.

Cheers,

Andy
