This looks as though it could be a really helpful group - especially to
someone like me, working in the volunrtary sector!
My name is Ron Cookson; I am Chairman of Trustees of a newly established
educational trust called "The Mills Archive Trust", currently based in
Reading.
We are developing a number of innovative web-based approaches to the uses of
archive material to improve awareness of traditional mills and milling. One
important aspect of this is the e-learning environment and the opportunity
to use architectural, engineering and social history aspects to enhance the
educational process. We have the added incentive of wishing to encourage
more interest in sonme of the disappearing crafts such as millwrighting. I
have not yet set up a proper website but have placed a place-holder at
www.millsarchive.com
Early days for us yet, but I have "retired" into this role from 30 years or
so in medical education. For the last 10-15 I have been harnessing computers
to this task and most recently have been working with IT colleagues on
developing corporate Intranets.
I look forward to playing an active part in this cross-cultural forum and
learning a great deal in the process!
