This is a really refreshing debate for a Friday morning!
It seems to me that one of the best ways to encourage people to develop
these skills would be to find out what they actually might want to do which
would be done more easily or better using appropriate IT i.e in conjunction
with other learning or creative projects. So IT skills could be one part of
a package on Family History or Garden Design or Car Maintenance. Although I
know others (with different learning styles) would be interested to try out
a new electric screwdriver just to see what it can do, personally I wouldn't
bother to look at one until I had a relevant task in mind.
