Disability and Access
Management Seminar
Manchester Metropolitan University
Monday 4 November 2002
The aim of this Disability and Access Seminar is to improve access to
information for disabled people, and to information on disabilities. The
seminar is aimed at middle managers: people who have strategic
responsibility, and operational oversight for the delivery of services to
the whole community of users.
During the course of the seminar participants
will be introduced to techniques for understanding what is really needed;
will increase their awareness of the full range of support that is possible;
will identify good practice;
will be challenged to ensure that the services they deliver are designed to
meet the needs of disabled people;
will learn from the experience of others;
will share ideas;
will impact on policy and advice from CILIP.
The day will begin with a look at the reality of being disabled; followed by
advice on where to begin; hear from people who are delivering effective
services; and hear from umbrella organisations which can help. Participants
will finish by considering all these aspects together, and will be reminded
of their discussions with a follow-up report.
