Maurice wonders "But in this particular case, is sensitive personal data
involved?" and I think it could be, as some retirements are on health
grounds rather than age.
We have a number of departmental newsletters that tend to include general
info for employees plus a 'personal section' - congratulations to new
parents, welcome to new employees, arrangements for escapees' leaving dos,
etc.
I had a complaint from an employee because his name was included
in 'leaving this month, wishing them a long & happy retirement' with half
a dozen others. He had been on long-term sick and enforced retirement and
didn't think it was appropriate / anyone else's business. I agreed - have
advised managers that in future should check with the employees concerned
before broadcasting this type of info to all & sundry.
