NORTHAMPTONSHIRE BLACK HISTORY PROJECT
Seeking a Community Research Officer (£21,249)
Exciting opportunity on innovative History project
Are you passionate about history?
Do you have experience of working with Black community groups?
The successful applicant will work with the Director, Oral History Officer
and the County’s communities to deliver the Northamptonshire Black History
Project (NBHP). The Project involves (1) collecting and preserving the
archives of Black community organisations in the County (2) oral history
work with elders and young people (3) original research into the history of
the Black communities in Northamptonshire over the past 500 years.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Undertake and coordinate original research into the history of Black
individuals and communities from the 16th century to the present day
- Liaise with Black community organisations and Northamptonshire Record
Office to map, record and document community archives
- Work in conjunction with the Oral History Officer to collect and preserve
individual and community records/ material/ testimonies
Criteria
Applicants need to possess:
- Experience of working with Black community groups
- Experience of historical research
- Experience of managing staff/ volunteers and budgets
- Excellent communication skills
The project is based in Northampton but has a countywide remit.
