Dear Colleague:

The 3rd International Conference on
Concurrent Engineering in Construction - CEC02
will take place from 1-3 July 2002 at the University of California at
Berkeley, California, USA. This conference is organized by CIB TG33 and
U.C. Berkeley.

The aim of the conference is to engender Concurrent Engineering thinking
and practices within the architecture/engineering/construction industry.
The conference is to provide an international forum for researchers and
leading experts from various disciplines to exchange ideas and disseminate
information on latest developments in Concurrent Engineering.

The conference theme is "Concurrent Engineering in Construction" but this
covers many subjects. Topics of interest for presentation and discussion
include but are not limited to:

        Foundations and principles of CE
        Process and enterprise modelling
        Information management & technologies
        CE environments
        Applications and tools
        Industry case studies and experiences
On-going and recent research projects CE
Methods and Tools for Teaching Concurrent Engineering

Background: The First International Conference on Concurrent Engineering in
Construction - CEC97 - was hosted by the Institution of Structural
Engineers and held in London, UK, in 1997. A group of researchers
established CIB Task Group 33 in February 1998 to further pursue the theory
and practice of concurrent engineering in construction. TG33 is part of
CE-NET, the Concurrent Engineering NETwork of excellence. The Second
International Conference on Concurrent Engineering in Construction - CEC99
- was organized by CIB TG33 and VTT and held in Espoo, Finland on 25-27
August 1999. The conference website still is available at
http://cic.vtt.fi/cec99/ and it includes conference abstracts.

Call for Papers and Submissions Schedule: Authors interested in
participating in the CEC02 conference should submit papers and will receive
feedback according to the following schedule:

Notification of your intention to register and participate in the
conference: 1 March 2002 (this is a courtesy notification, to help the
conference organizers)
Complete papers due: 1 April 2002 (THIS IS A FIRM DEADLINE!)
Given our schedule and according to lean principles no late submissions
will be accepted.
Reviews back to authors: 6 May 2002
Final Papers due: 27 May 2002
Conference: 1-2 July 2002
Open House hosted by the Lean Construction Group at U.C. Berkeley: 3 July
2002, 8:30-11:30 AM
Papers should be at most 12 pages long, including figures and references.
All submissions (including figures) should be sent electronically to
[log in to unmask] Specific formatting instructions are presented
here in a Adobe Acrobat file and in a Microsoft Word file.

Members of the technical advisory board will assist in reviewing papers and
selecting those for inclusion in the proceedings and presentation at the
conference.

At least one author of each paper that has been accepted must register for
the conference, prior to June 1st, or their paper may be declined.

Conference Venue and Meeting Place: The Conference will be held at the
University of California in Berkeley, California, USA. The conference is
being organized by faculty and staff of the Construction Engineering and
Management (CE&M) program. U.C. Berkeley's CE&M Program, housed in the
Civil & Environmental Engineering Department.

The Conference will take place in the King Student Union. This building is
on the colorful, South end of campus, near the intersection of Telegraph
Avenue and Bancroft Way. Click here to see a large campus map or to get
driving directions. Consider taking public transportation. It is very
convenient to take BART to campus. Get off at Berkeley station, then walk
due east (uphill). Allow about 10 minutes to get to the Student Union. Also
see the Transportation section further down in this document for additional
information.

Our conference will start at 8 AM on Monday and at the same time on
Tuesday. Please check in at the welcome desk in front of the meeting room
to pick up your badge and a hard copy of the proceedings between 7:30 and 8
AM. A light breakfast will be provided.

A block of will be reserved in U.C. Berkeley dormitories, from Sunday June
30 through Thursday July 4. In addition, Berkeley, other East Bay cities,
and of course San Francisco provide numerous hotel accommodations.

Note that July is the National Holiday in the US so if you are in for
fireworks, BBQs, and other events as well as patriotic displays, this is
the time to be here.

The conference registration fee is $350.
