Call for Workshop Participation

New Zealand Case-Based Reasoning Workshop

Waiheke Island, Auckland, New Zealand 10 - 12 Jan, 2003
        and
Queenstown, New Zealand, 17 - 19 Jan 2003

******************************************************
GENERAL INFORMATION:
******************************************************
Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) is a mature research discipline with publications
dating back to the 1980's and an active and vibrant research community. As
the number of researchers in CBR grows and the volume of publications
increases this is a good time to review the CBR canon.

The NZCBR Workshop has invited CBR researchers to participate in a
collective endeavour to identify those research papers that have most
influenced CBR over the years. The results of this activity will be
published by Morgan Kaufmann Publishers as a "Readings in Case-Based
Reasoning".

CBR researchers are now invited to participate in this unique workshop to be
held in January 2003 in New Zealand. Researchers have already identified a
shortlist of papers
(https://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/nzcbr/paper_shortlist.pdf). This list will be
refined at the workshop and delegates will prepare commentaries to the
papers. These commentaries will be published along-side the papers in the
Readings in Case-Based Reasoning volume. Delegates to the workshop will
therefore obtain several high-quality publications from their attendance at
this unique event.

******************************************************
VENUES
******************************************************
The workshop will take place in January 2003 (mid-summer in the Southern
Hemisphere). The workshop will be split into two sessions separated by five
days.

The first session will be held in the North Island of New Zealand on Waiheke
Island in Auckland's Harauki Gulf (http://www.waiheke.co.nz/). This session
will concentrate on collating the papers, commentaries and critiques for the
Readings volume.
The second session will be held in the South island of New Zealand in
Queenstown in the Southern Alps (http://www.queenstownnz.co.nz/). This
session will be forward looking and will develop a research strategy for
CBR.

****************************************************
COSTS
****************************************************
There will be a single registration fee, covering both workshop sessions of
$1000 (NZD), in the region of $450 (US dollars) or £300 (UK pounds). The
workshop fee will include workshop facilities and meals, 2 welcome
receptions, 2 gala dinners and entertainment.

Registration is now open at https://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/nzcbr/

A variety of accommodation standards and prices are be available for
delegates to book separately. Note that accommodation, subsistence and
internal transport within New Zealand are very competitively priced for
people with international currency.

***************************************************
TRANSPORT
***************************************************
Auckland has New Zealand's main international airport served by most major
international airlines, either flying westward to new Zealand via Los
Angeles or eastward via Singapore or Hong Kong. It is a twelve hour flight
to Auckland from Los Angeles or Singapore and a 4 hour flight from Australia
(Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane). Waiheke Island is a 30 minute taxi ride
followed by a 30 minute ferry ride from Auckland International Airport.
There are regular internal flights from Auckland and other North Island
locations to Queenstown in the South Island. There is also a frequent car
and passenger ferry service between North and South Islands across Cook
Strait.

*****************************************************
ORGANISATION
*****************************************************
The NZCBR Workshop is organised by AI-CBR, and supported by The University
of Auckland and the University of Otago.
