Hi all.
Now we are getting close to something here!
Jane Wickenden say she used to do 'French Skipping' with elastics in the 1960th.
Eve E Harwood did the same in the 1950'th and names Chinese jumping and 'yoki'
To try to find out when skipping/jumping using rubberbands or elastics startet and in which country and why it startet and why it spread, we could probably use this method:
Close your eyes and let your mind wander back to the time when you were 12 years old (refered to as 'PeakPoint) Think hard: Did you, are did you not participate in elastic game? Picture your friends and where you used to play.
If your personal PeakPoint is 1958, and no one can give an earlyer PeakPoint, that should give us a clue.
It will also give a clue to which part of the world it first occured.
The name of the game can also be a clue if it's described with a geografrical reference.
Anyway, it is surely of high interest to note the different names in the different languages.
Here is my list:
Norwegian: Hoppe strikk (translatet: Jump rubberband)
Sweedish: Hoppa gummiband (Same translation)
Danish: Hoppe elastic (Ditto)
So, keep 'em coming, this is fun!
