Dear list members
I am sure everyone will wish to join me in congratulating John Tyrrell,
who (in spite of finding that his passport was about to expire, and having
to ride around half England and half the Czech Republic at high speed to
put the matter right) was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Masaryk
University, Brno, yesterday. It is a wonderful affirmation not only of
John's work but once more of the composer himself, who also received the
same honour. The music played and sung at the ceremony included Janacek's
"Cekam Te" (from the Album for Kamila), played on a cimbalom...j
