SLAMABAD, Pakistan, Jan. 18 - President Pervez Musharraf said in an
interview published here today that Osama bin Laden might have died of
kidney failure in a cave in Afghanistan after becoming separated from a
dialysis machine he had used in recent years.
Musharraf uses the image of Bin Laden to influence events. He
opportunely raises the issue of Bin Laden's condition in the hope of
influencing the situation. He uses the issue as a means of signalling to
the Washington that he can declare him dead as a means of pressurising
Washington to end its air strikes. Conjectures concerning the location
of Bin Laden and Mullah Omar is also exploited as a mean of influencing
the where the US military presence extends to.
