Part of ArtSway¹s Navvygate Residency programme
Emilia Telese, in residence at Artsway during September 2002, is developing
work which is highly sensitive. Two years ago her father made a journey
through the New Forest shortly before he died. Hampered by his growing
illness he slept through much of the journey. Sleepwalking is a live, video
and sound residency that explores issues of sensory, physical and reflected
memory through an intimate research of a transposed experience. Memory and
senses mutate during sleep. Their quality is explored and recreated, in a
loving, emotional attempt to respond to a loved ones departure from the
physical world.
During her residency, Emilia Telese has been gathering information, filming
and documenting her emotional and physical journey in various ways, engaging
with the New Forest, its secrets and memories.
Sleepwalking will become Emilia Telese¹s debut solo show at Artsway in March
2003
