5th November 2002
led by Charmaine McKissock
Davies Street
10 15 - 4 00
Cost 50.00
Participants
This workshop event is aimed at all staff involved in Arts Education,
whether in academic, administrative, advisory or information roles.
Aims
An eminently practical, balanced and inspiring grounding in providing
dyslexia support. The attitudes and actions of staff can seriously
affect the learning outcomes of dyslexic students. Dyslexia is not a
marginal subject: effective techniques for supporting dyslexic
students also benefit a wide range of other students.
Outcomes
Participants will be familiar with a range of issues and practical
strategies for delivering dyslexia support, including:
* What is dyslexia? How is dyslexia diagnosed?
* Is there a typical dyslexic learning style? Are special skills and
talents linked to dyslexia?
* How do I recognise a dyslexic student?
* How do assess the work of dyslexic students fairly?
* How do I make information more accessible to dyslexic students?
Process
Presentation, discussion, small task groups, action planning.
There will be an opportunity at this workshop to discuss future training needs.
