CHALLENGES IN STOCHASTIC COMPUTATION WORKSHOP
September 25 to October 4, 2002
=============================================
SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
This initial Workshop of the SAMSI Stochastic Computation Program
(see www.samsi.info for a description of the entire program) will
involve tutorials, research presentations and group research meetings
on topics including: numerical computing via simulation, importance
sampling, sequential sampling and sequential computational methods,
Monte Carlo Markov chain methods (MCMC), auxiliary variables, data
augmentation, hybrid MCMC, perfect simulation methods, applications
and case studies, and new challenges in simulation-based computation.
Individuals interested in participating in the Workshop (as well
as short and long term visitors to the SAMSI Program) should contact
Merlise Clyde ([log in to unmask]) as soon as possible to indicate
intent to participate and topic of proposed presentation (talk or
poster). We expect to be able to offer expenses to assist most
participants. New researchers and members of underrepresented groups
are especially encouraged to participate.
WORKSHOP PROGRAM
September 25-27: TUTORIALS
Tutorial 1: Introduction to Stochastic Computation
(John Monahan, Alan Gelfand)
Tutorial 2: Introduction to Gibbs Sampling and MCMC, with
Applications to Hierarchical Models
(Alan Gelfand, Brad Carlin)
Tutorial 3: Overview of Perfect Simulation Methods
(Duncan Murdoch)
Tutorial 4: Sequential Sampling Techniques
(Simon Godsill, Jun Liu)
Tutorial 5: Aspects of Computation for Genomic Variation Data
(Simon Tavare)
Tutorial 6: Advanced Monte Carlo Methods
(Peter Green, Jun Liu)
September 28-October 1: RESEARCH WORKSHOP
A formal 4 day workshop: Challenges in Stochastic Computation,
featuring presentations by workshop participants, with working
sessions for discussion and research interactions. The formal oral
presentations will be complemented by a poster session on the evening
of September 29th, and social activities including a conference
dinner on September 30th.
Individuals interested in presenting should should contact
Merlise Clyde ([log in to unmask]) as soon as possible to indicate
intent to participate and topic of proposed presentation (talk or
poster).
October 2-4: WORKING GROUP MEETINGS
These `formation meetings' of participants in the Stochastic
Computation program will finalize the specific topics and plans for
the research activities of the program, to be conducted from October,
2002 to May, 2003.
Program Committee: Jim Berger, Merlise Clyde, Alan Gelfand, Jean-Pierre
Fouque, David Heckerman, Mark Huber, Greg Lawler, Jun Liu, John
Monahan, Mike West.
