Buchi Emecheta is the most established and prolific Black women writer in
England. Nigerian born, she has lived in England for more than 30 years,
with a writing career almost as long. She has written fourteen novels, as
well as children's books and received several awards and honorary doctorates
from Britain and abroad, and recently named as one of Britain's writers of
the
century. She has also had a film made about her life and novel, Double Yoke
and a street named after her in the London Borough of Lambeth. Her, early
books tackle the situation of parenthood, family and living in two
cultures
in Black Britain, in a context previously unthought of in Britain during the
1960's, reflecting the socio politics and traditions of West Africa and
Britain. Her early novels include, In the Ditch and Second Class Citizen.
Her
