Spin bends a ball's trajectory, no? So surely a curve ball would have spin?
I remember when I first sighted "spindoctor" in Australia because I
was working as a sub editor then. (What year? I can't remember - mid
90s I guess) and one of my fellow subs completely lost his temper
because the London correspondent used it in his story; what's this
mean? he asked belligerently, and deleted it, saying he didn't want
that Fleet St crap here. Seeing as it was the Herald Sun, dearly
beloved of Rupert Murdoch, I couldn't quite understand his rage nor
his devotion to Standards, but there we are. Not long after that it
was everywhere.
But what has this to do with anything?
