The use of laser in nerve ablation is possible. The selective ablation of
one of the roots of the trigeminal nerve (in The Netherlands performed by
anaesthesiologist or radiologists) is a possible application. We ablate
using radiofrequency but the laser is as convenient. Furthermore, at some
time in the past (I guess around 1992) I heard a story about selective lysis
of the nerve in phrenic problems and unilateral sweating of the arms.
Whether the latter is all hear-say or actually performed in patients remains
unclear to me.
