Durham Blackboard conference - 16th and 17th December 2002
Blackboard - MY institution
Dear Blackboard User,
We'd like to add another date for your diary, complementing the forthcoming
user group meeting in Swansea. Building on our two previous conferences,
'Successful Implementation of a Learning Environment' and 'VLE: Valuable
Learning Experience', the University of Durham Learning Technologies Team is
delighted to invite you to a third annual conference for users of
BlackboardR.
This year's event 'Blackboard - MY institution' is aimed at disseminating
the accumulating expertise of learning technologists, technical and academic
staff in the numerous institutions across the UK and abroad, many of whom
are now into their third year of a full implementation of Blackboard across
campus. This year the focus turns to real experiences around the country -
we hope to both stem the re-inventions of wheels and begin to share ideas,
from technical tips and tricks to pedagogic good practice. In order to
provide a wide overview of the achievements, this year we are offering a
call for papers, and will mix invited speakers with submitted presentations
and hands-on workshops. There will also be a range of companies exhibiting
and making presentations during the two days, including Impatica,
QuestionMark and Wimba.
The 2002 conference will take place over 2 days in December, with a Bucks
Fizz reception and conference dinner included. A residential package is also
on offer - which adds bed and breakfast in Hatfield College, Durham.
We are inviting:
(a) papers of twenty minutes in length on any aspect of your Blackboard
expertise, in the form of a presented case study
and also
(b)ten minute proposals for discussion by the audience.
More details about this (including suggested topics) can be found on the
website.
We are especially open to members of academic staff who wish to share what
has gone right, (and gone wrong?) as a user of Blackboard. All papers will
be considered by a panel prior to acceptance.
To offer a short paper proposal, please send an abstract in Word format
(max. 500 words) to [log in to unmask] by email attachment.
Closing date for papers: 5pm, Wednesday, 18th September 2002.
Notification of acceptance will be issued by the 1st October, when a
provisional programme will be available.
All individuals offering short papers are expected to register for the
conference. Online Registration will be available from the 4th September.
Full details about the conference can be found on our website -

We very much hope to see you in Durham in December.
Apologies for any cross-posting.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Malcolm Murray
