I've just joined the list and noticed other people are experiencing problems
accessing offline content from within BB.
Apologies if this is old news but here's what I have discovered during
tests:
I added offline content to the course materials section of our course by
typing the following into the 'Path to Content' box.
/pixeldraw.mov
As long as the viewers' CD drive letter setting is correct (start page>
personal info.>set cd drive letter), they should be able to see the content.
We're using version 5.5.1 of Blackboard and I tried linking to avi's,
quicktimes, gifs, jpegs, exe's, which all worked in Internet Explorer 5 but
NOT in Netscape 4.7. Has anyone come across/ fixed this?
Note that exe's will open an 'open/ run from current location or save to
disk' prompt. As far as I know there's no way round this. It's a browser
security thing to combat viruses etc.
Also, students having to set their own CD letter is a pain, especially if
they share a computer. Does anyone know of Bb building block/ applet which
will set this on-the-fly so students don't have to keep changing it?
Cheers/ good luck,
S.
