OTCT ANNUAL STUDY: CALL FOR PAPERS-REMINDER
Dear colleage
The Annual Study Day of The Association of Occupational Therapists in
Computer Technology (OTCT) is to be held on September 6th 2002 at the Royal
Hospital for Neuro-disability, Putney, London. The theme for this year is
Outcome Measures and Assessment Models. (see www.otct.org.uk/ for more
details)
For the past 15 years therapists in all areas of health and social work have
talked about the beneficial therapeutic effects of computer technology on
their clients. Until recently they have not been charged with proving these
claims. Outcome measures are used to demonstrate that particular goals
established for a patient have been identified and then achieved. Currently,
however there is no standard or uniform measure being used to assess
computer technology outcomes. In North America, advances are being made in
the Assistive Technology field with tools such as the PIADS and QUEST being
developed. Here in the United Kingdom however, such tools have yet to have
an impact on our practice.
The kinds of questions we are hoping our study day will address are:
What can be assessed and measured?
What tools can we use to measure outcome/assess need?
What are the strengths and weaknesses of these tools?
Are generic tools appropriate or should we be using technology specific
tools?
If you are using computers or electronic assistive technology (EAT) as a
therapeutic or rehabilitation tool and would like to share your experience
of using or choosing outcome measurement or assessment tools, you are
invited to submit, by email, a 250 word abstract to Jane Seale at
[log in to unmask] by Friday February 8th 2002. The OTCT committee will
meet to review the abstracts on February 15th and authors should receive
feedback by February 22nd.
Your abstract should include a title, your name and contact details and a
summary of the issues you will cover in your talk. Submissions are welcome
from any therapist, clinician or rehabilitation professional who has an
interest in computer technology.
