Hi Chris, Aidan and all
When the device first came out, I tried it with a number of our clients (6) with various conditions and I found it to be especially unreliable in a typical school/college classroom setting. It works okay when you can control environmental lighting but that in the real world (and especially in schools) is not always possible. I even found it to be erratic at times when someone wearing a shirt of particular brightness/reflectivity would pass by and occasionally when the user was wearing glasses!
It has however, been quite successful with one adult client of ours who has SCI and who uses the Track IR in conjunction with Speech Recognition (yes, he does use mouse-grid as well). Unfortunately, he always needs someone around to cover all windows/doors etc to reduce the ambient light and to ensure that the little dot is stuck on properly. He also has accurate/smooth control of the head and neck which is obviously essential for this to work.

Can you send a query out to the assistech listserve please? I want to know what experience people have with using Track IR and how it compares with headmouse. Particularly, whether people have found it to be stable and how badly either system is affected by background light and reflections. Do you have an opinion?
