Dear Martin,
At the RAAATE conference in Birmingham in November there was a presentation by a team from University of Dundee. They are developing a piece of software which will be able to read sign language. The software is capable of recognising movement by watching for changes in the colour of the image that it gets through a camera. It might be that software could be modified (and it might be clever enough...!) to see smaller facial movements, and then produce a switch output. I've got two contact names for that project, Kenny Morrison and Stephen McKenna.
I believe that members of this list would be extremely interested in any progress you make with your switch, so I would personally like to encourage you to give us some feedback on any contact with Dundee University or your final solution.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Subject: switch access
Dear all,
I am working with a person who has facial expression only. Uses a
ventillator on a trachy. No head movement.
The person can frown, raise eye-brows and grin.
I have tried EMG ( doesn't like pads on skin ), Liberator P-switch ( doesn't
like head band ) to pick up on frown.
Also tried eye-blink. Doesn't like idea of spectacle frame.
I have experimented with roller microswitch again on headband to pick up on
frown without success.
I would be very greateful for any advice anyone can offer.
thanks
