It's not too late to book a place at the ARLIS/UK & Ireland Spring
Conference - Cultural Connections: Libraries, Museums and Archives - to be
held at the Public Record Office, Kew on Thursday 23rd May.
This promises to be an excellent event exploring collaboration across the
library, museum and archive domains. Apart from the specialist speakers
there will also be the opportunity for a 'behind-the-scenes' tour of the
Public Record Office (PRO), the National Archives of England, Wales and the
UK, which is set in attractive grounds in Kew, complete with lakes and
wildlife. (For more information see the PRO's website at
http://www.pro.gov.uk)
The PRO holds a surprisingly wide range of documents related to art,
architecture and design, including wallpaper, fabric and ceramic designs by
the likes of Pugin and Liberty, architectural plans, material on the Great
Exhibition and Festival of Britain, information relating to the Schools of
Art and Design, and even material by Cecil Beaton. A selection of these
will be on display at the conference along with further information about
finding and using the archives.
The programme is attached. To book a place complete the booking slip at the
foot of the programme and return it to Penny Dade at the stated address.
Bookings are being taken to the end of this week.
