Dear ARLIS members
I am representing ARLIS/UK & Ireland at a meeting on 12th Feb at LAHQ.
The subject of the meeting is the withdrawal of library privilege and
fair dealing copying for commercial research, under the new Copyright
Directive, due to be implemented into UK law at the end of 2002. LACA
(Library Association Copyright Alliance) has arranged the meeting for
libraries affected by this change to discuss what the problems are
likely to be. This will affect not-for-profit libraries which derive
income from the supply of library privilege copies for commercial
research as well as libraries in for-profit organisations. You may well
be attending the meeting yourself or have already e-mailed your concerns
to Barbara Stratton, Adviser, Copyright and Information Development at
The Library Association. If not please feed your concerns back to me by
Friday 8th Feb.
Thankyou
Stephanie Silvester
Hon. Secretary ARLIS/UK & Ireland
