making new publications.

right clearance. It is led by staff from the Open University's Rights
Department, which has over 25 years of experience in obtaining rights in
third party materials for re-use in broadcasts, computer-based publications
and books. Richard McCracken and Madeleine Gilbart are also co-authors of
the book <Buying and Clearing Rights>.
The day will fully explore the practicalities of rights negotiation:
* What is copyright?
* How do rights differ from copyright?
* Broadcast and video rights
* Computer based systems: software licensing, network distribution
* Multi-media
* Administrating the clearance process
- and includes a workshop session for participants to put into practice the
skills learnt, and opportunity to discuss their own specific concerns.
