[ARLIS-LINK] CALL
FOR HELP Date sent: Thu, 25 Apr 2002 11:43:35 +0100
Dear list-owner
Is it time that arlis-link became one of the lists where only
subscribers can send messages? That would protect us from this
sort
of junk/spam.
Best wishes,
Pam
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------ --------- these are the options
Restricted lists
A restricted list allows anyone to search the archived messages
but joining the list must be approved by the
owner and only members can post, ask questions, see who is on
the list, etc.
Private lists
A private list is a list where the owner exercises some control -
usually you need to apply for membership to the
list owner, and only people who are subscribed to the list may
send messages and access the archives. Private
lists are normally used for committees, administrative groups, or
collaborative projects.
Moderated lists
A moderated list normally has characteristics similar to those of a
private list. Additionally, when you send a
message to a moderated list, a person who acts as an editor
decides whether or not to send your message to
the list. Sometimes lists are moderated in order to block junk mail.
(they'll all mean extra work for me though, which....!)
we used to have a moderated list, but that inhibited discussion, it
was also a lot of work, so I'd prefer not to go down that route.
