Liverpool Record Office experienced an increase in visitor numbers during
the last financial year.
Nearly 40,000 visits were made overall, and between January and March 2002
it was not unusual for us
to deal with 240 -250 visitors per day! Much of this was obviously due to
the release of the 1901 Census
but on many occasions those utilising the searchroom were forced to share
their desks and on two occasions
we even considered restricting access to the searchroom such was the demand.
Apart from the release of the Census we have no explanation for this
increase. However, it is perhaps worth
noting that we have little web presence and that the vast majority of our
catalogues are as yet only available
in the Record Office.
