Not to inundate the listserv with more statistics, but I thought the
following might be useful. According to a report by the National
Security Archives, an American not-for-profit group that tracks the US
government's FOI efforts, the US National Archives received 9,189 FOI
requests in 2000. It's FOI office was staffed with 5 full-time and 33
part-time employees, each of whom processed an average of 286 requests
during the year. Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate
comparable figures for local and state archives in the United States,
but this may provide a rough starting point to estimate what sort of
demands on staff the new FOI regulations would create.
Please feel free to contact me off-line for more information.
Sincerely,
