Well if we are doing film and TV it is difficult to know where to start! There was that shoot-out in an archive in one of the Brosnan Bond films -so hard to get blood out of the records afterwards, and I can't imagine the hail of bullets did much for them either. And there's an episode in the second series of Andromeda which features both an archivist and a librarian. The librarian is dull and grey (literally) and sort of triangular, but the archivist is a saucy minx in a mini-skirt and a most un-cardiganlike top (what there is of it), who snogs anything in trousers that crosses her path. Martin, don't worry about your credibility - how embarrassed am I to admit to knowing this, when the second series of Andromeda is yet to be broadcast on C4! But it did make being an archivist seem like quite a sexy sort of job, which of course we all know it is. Pity about the librarians though.

In the credits to the first Lord of the Rings film "The Fellowship of the
Ring", a character is identified as "Gondorian archivist" who presumably is
the wizened little man armed with flaming torch who shows Gandalf where the
scrolls are stored by which he identifies the Ring.
A suitably effacing, none speaking role.
I've done my credibility no good at all with that one.

Hi,
There were also of course the Jedi archives in Episode 2 of Star Wars...so
what if they did manage to loose a planet from their records -probably
poor document control starting with minimal appraisal procedures but that's
another story and, hey, at least we made the movie!!
