Visual Arts UK was a celebration of the Visual Arts throughout the North of
England during 1996. It was part of Arts 2000, a project launched by the
Arts Council in 1991 to celebrate a different art form in different part of
the country each year between 1992 and 2000. This culminated in the UK-wide
Year of the Artist during 2000/2001.
The Visual Arts UK Archive was established in 1997 with many organisations
and individuals involved in the year donating material to the collection.
The aim of the archive is to provide a publicly accessible record of Visual
Arts UK and a research resource for interested members of the public,
academic researchers, artists, critics, policy makers, arts managers and
administrators.
The Visual Arts UK Archive is one of several collections relating to
cultural policy and practice held by the University of Northumbria.
Catalogues for other collections will be made available over the coming
year.
Cataloguing and arrangement of the collection has been made possible
through funding from the HEFCE Research Support Libraries Programme (RSLP)
Access strand. This has provided funding over four years to improve access
to our resources for external researchers; Northumbria is one of only three
new Universities to receive such funds.
The Visual Arts UK Archive is part of the University Library's Special
Collections and access is open on application. All material is copyright
and permission is required for reproduction.
Enquiries and appointments to view the archive should be directed to;
