Subject: Weathering steel
I'm currently carrying out research into the deterioration and
conservation of weathering steel (Cor-ten) sculpture. As few iron
alloy sculptures are cast, any information on the manufacture,
solders and treatment of the welds would be of great help. Another
area of interest is the effect of environmental factors like bird
droppings, tree residues and trapped water on the corrosion of
weathering steel. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how these
conditions could be simulated experimentally? . Any help would be
greatly appreciated
